Worcester Schools Canceled Due To Winter Storm

After the area received more than a foot of snow, Worcester Public Schools canceled classes Monday.

WORCESTER, MA — A winter storm that dumped more than a foot of snow on the area resulted in classes being canceled Monday for Worcester Public Schools. The senior center and library branches are also closed Monday.

The city posted the following on its Facebook page:

"Due to inclement weather, the Worcester Senior Center, the Worcester Public Schools - Worcester, MA, and the Worcester Public Library Burncoat, Goddard, Roosevelt, and Tatnuck Magnet branches will be closed Monday, January 8."

Worcester had a snowfall total of 15.5 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

While things look quiet for Monday's weather, there's a possibility of a wintry mix Tuesday afternoon into the evening. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a possibility of snow Tuesday after 3 p.m.

The precipitation is then forecast to become heavy rain by 10 p.m., which could lead to flooding. Wind could be a factor with gusts of up to 48 mph.
