Worcester Sees Marked Increase In Coronavirus Cases
After two weeks of declines, new coronavirus cases in Worcester ticked up this week.
WORCESTER, MA — Worcester counted 63 new coronavirus cases for the week ending July 23, the first week-over-week increase since July 2.
Worcester health officials have been releasing coronavirus data every Thursday since early June. Coronavirus cases dropped in the weeks ending July 9 and July 16. City officials are reminding the public to remain cautious, even if coronavirus cases are much lower than peak months in April and May.
"Maintain proper social distancing at all times and wear a mask or face covering. Avoid large gatherings and continue to use caution in your interactions with others," the July 23 update said. "COVID-19 still poses a threat to public safety."
The number of coronavirus deaths at local hospitals increased over the last week by one to a pandemic total of 350. But there are only 11 people being treated for COVID-19 at the city's hospitals, including three people in intensive care.
