WORCESTER, MA — It'll be too cold this weekend to celebrate winter.

The Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District's planned Downtown Worcester Winter Festival has been postponed with temperatures set to drop below zero Friday — and stay that cold well into Saturday.

The event was set to take place Saturday afternoon centered around the downtown common featuring food trucks, ice sculptures, curling, ice skating and art installations. The event will now take place Feb. 18 — although the organizers have a Feb. 25 rain date if the weather is still too wintry in two weeks.

"We know that planning an outdoor event during the winter in New England means cold temps are to be expected, but we also want folks to be able to enjoy the festival safely," the organizers said in an update this week.

Although it's already cold out, temperatures will drop below zero after sunset Friday. The wind chill will pull temperatures down even further, with -30 possible in the Worcester area, according to the National Weather Service.
