Blackstone Explosion: Possible Pipe Bomb Targeted Resident

The victim, who a report identified as the Bellingham High School principal, was unharmed but "terrified."

BLACKSTONE, MA – Police are investigating an explosion that damaged a car outside of a home in Blackstone Thursday evening. Officers responded to Lakeshore Drive around 6:15 p.m. for a report of possible vandalism, according to a press release. At the scene, the homeowner told police he heard a "loud bang" that shook his home and saw that his vehicle was damaged.

Investigators said the car had been damaged by an "explosive device" that may have been a pipe bomb, police said in a press release. Police believe the resident was targeted.

Police did not identify the victim, who was uninjured, but WCVB is reporting he is the principal at Bellingham High School. The Bellingham School District said on Facebook Friday morning there will be additional security due to "a recent local event."
