Wrentham, MA — A dog was rescued from a 135-degree vehicle at the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets as the owner "shopped in the comfort of air-conditioned stores," police said.

It was one of two dogs freed from hot cars at the mall this weekend. Their owners were cited; their names were not released.

Police credited alert shoppers for contacting officers after seeing the animals in the "oppressively hot" cars.

"Their owners shopped in the comfort of air-conditioned stores," police said in a statement. "Police broke into both cars, removed the dogs, and gave them water ... As is always the case, the owners eventually showed up and seemed surprised to learn how fast a car turns into an oven. A lesson learned, unfortunately at the expense of their pets."
