3 MI Cities Among Nation's Best Places To Live: Report

All three cities are located in southeastern Michigan, including two in metro Detroit.

MICHIGAN — Three southeastern Michigan cities are among the top 100 places to live in the nation, according to a popular travel publication.

Livability released its 10th annual list which ranks cities across the country with a population between 75,000 and 500,000. In determining the list, the publication looked at the economy, housing and cost of living, amenities, transportation, environment, safety, education and health.

Livability then partnered with Applied Geography Solutions to give each city a "LivScore" based on their findings.

Here are the three Michigan cities ranked in the study:

No. 10 - Troy

The metro Detroit city earned a LivScore of 837, the highest of all Michigan cities in the list. In addition to highly-ranked schools, safe neighborhoods and a thriving economy, the publication noted "the city’s dozens of major companies based there help boost the city’s economy and keep the unemployment and tax rates down. Troy is also known for its excellent city services, good quality of life, affordability and a plethora of outdoor resources."

No. 20 - Rochester Hills

Another metro Detroit city and a neighbor to Troy, Rochester Hills earned a LivScore of 798. The publication details Rochester Hills as "a picturesque community providing an idyllic setting for families thanks to an abundance of outdoor activities, cultural attractions and a thriving downtown."

No. 65 - Ann Arbor

The home of one of the nation's top ranked university's earned a LivScore of 732. The publication also noted Ann Arbor's public schools, great health care options, job opportunities and cultural amenities and events like the Ann Arbor Art Fair.

"Go big, go bold, go blue in Ann Arbor," the website writes. "Located in southeastern Michigan, Ann Arbor is a thriving college town full of plenty of things to do, from top-notch schools to plenty of parks and recreation opportunities, all while maintaining a low cost of living."
