MI Sheriff's Officer, Suspect Dead In Shooting: Police
A man is dead after fatally shooting a Hillsdale County sheriff's deputy Thursday in Hillsdale County, according to police.
HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI — A man is dead after fatally shooting a Hillsdale County sheriff's deputy Thursday in Hillsdale County, according to police.
Police said the deputy was fatally shot in a shootout with a suspect in the area of Beecher Road and Lamb Road in Osseo, which is roughly eight miles southeast of Hillsdale.
Police did not immediately identify the deputy or what led up to the shootout.

Police believe the suspected shooter was Eric Michael Fiddler, who was considered armed and dangerous. Officers found him a few hours later near the intersection of Culbert and Osseo roads, according to police.
Officers ordered Fiddler to surrender, but he opened fire on officers, who then returned fire, fatally striking Fiddler, according to police.

"Colonel Grady and the members of the MSP are heartbroken to learn of the on-duty death of a Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office deputy, the second police officer to be killed this week while serving the residents of Michigan," Michigan State Police said on X on Thursday night.
Police were expected to release more information soon.
The shooting comes less than a week after an Oakland County sheriff's deputy was fatally shot in Detroit while tracking a stolen SUV, according to police.
