3rd annual Women's Power Happy Hour

"Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence." - Sheryl Sandberg

On Thursday, April 7th southeastern Michigan’s most connected and influential women have the chance to hit the jackpot for hungry children at the MGM Grand Detroit for one of metro Detroit’s most engaging social events of the season.

Doors open at 5:30 pm for the 3rd annual Women’s Power Happy Hour (WPHH) benefitting Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan (Gleaners) and the non-profit’s Million Meal Match campaign. The WPHH is presented by Michigan.com.

Returning co-chairs Paige Lustig of Renaissance Media and Linzie Vengas of Ideal Group are thrilled to welcome Dee Dee McKinney Odom of MGM Grand Detroit as a new Happy Hour co-chair. Along with hundreds of the areas most powerful female business, civic and community leaders, Happy Hour guests will enjoy an evening of spectacular spirits and hors d’oeuvres, superlative socializing and a sensational silent auction. High bidders can take home an array of dining certificates for metro-Detroit’s hottest restaurants, passes and memberships to attractions, weekend getaways and more.

Last year, over 300 guests helped the second annual WPHH achieve an almost four-fold increase in support over the inaugural event in 2014. Proceeds from the Women’s Power Happy Hour and Women’s Power Breakfast allowed Gleaners to provide over 1.2 million meals for kids and continue their food programming at 189 southeast Michigan schools.

Throughout the month of April, the community is encouraged to help feed hungry children this spring by donating to the campaign. Normally, $1 provides three meals, but during the Million Meal Match, $1 provides SIX meals for hungry children across southeast Michigan.

One in five Michigan children struggle with hunger, meaning they don’t have steady access to the food they need to live a healthy and productive life. Even with an improving economy,

48 percent (more than 300,000) of school-aged children in Michigan are eligible for free or reduced-fee school lunch. The vast majority of those children (42%) live in the five counties (Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland and Wayne) served by Gleaners. On weekends and during breaks from school, far too many families struggle to provide nutritious meals and children are faced with food insecurity.

Women’s Power Happy Hour tickets are $150 for a general ticket or $100 for an intermediate ticket for guests 35 and under. Sponsorships are also available.

The 3rd annual Women’s Power Happy Hour is the place to see and be seen! It’s always five o’clock somewhere but Gleaners is fighting hunger every day, around-the-clock.
