Catholic Teacher Accused of Sex with Student Waives Preliminary Hearing

The former Bishop Foley High School teacher accused of an ongoing seual relationship with a student has waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Kathryn Ronk, 29, of Birmingham made a brief appearance in a Madison Heights courtroom, The Detroit News reports. She’s charged with five counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, charges that could land her in prison fo life.

Madison Heights police began investigating Ronk, who was a Spanish teacher at Bishop Foley High School, last month after the male student’s parents and the Rev. Gerry LeBouef, the president of the school, filed a complaint.

Ronk, who was a first-year teacher at the Catholic school, was fired shortly after the allegations were made public.

She is free after posting a 10 percent surety bond for her bail, set at $500,000.

No court date has been set for Ronk’s next court appearance.
