Docs Talk Advances in Heart Disease & Diabetes Nov. 18
Plant Based Lifestyle Expo complements lecture at Birmingham Seaholm High School

Heart disease and diabetes are the topics on Wednesday, Nov. 18, when Barry Franklin, Ph.D., Beaumont Hospital director of preventive cardiology and cardiac rehab, presents “Recent Advances in Preventive Cardiology and Lifestyle Medicine,” and Caroline Trapp, D.N.P., director of diabetes education and care for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, offers “Hope for Diabetes – From the Middle of Nowhere!” Hosted by the nonprofit Plant Based Nutrition Support Group (PBNSG), the talks take place from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. in the Seaholm High School Auditorium, 2436 W. Lincoln St. in Birmingham.
Also that evening is the first-ever Plant Based Lifestyle Expo, from 4:30 until 9:30 p.m. in the lobby outside the Seaholm Auditorium. Designed to explore optimal health for the holidays and beyond, the free Expo will showcase local businesses and organizations committed to sharing healthy, whole-food fitness and lifestyle resources, samples and holiday gift ideas. The talks are part of a series on plant-based nutrition and health featuring nationally renowned experts, presented by PBNSG and sponsored by Whole Foods Market. Future lecture dates are Dec. 15 with author and public health expert Michael Greger, M.D.; Jan. 28, 2016 with internationally acclaimed author, TV host and medical director John McDougall M.D. live via Skype; Feb. 25 with groundbreaking author, scientific researcher and professor T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D.; and March 31 with “The Plant-Based Dietitian” Julieanna Hever, all in the Groves High School Main Theater Auditorium.
Tickets for each PBNSG lecture are $15 in advance at www.pbnsg.org/events, or $20 at the door. The Nov. 18 Plant Based Lifestyle Expo is free.
