Dr. Michael Greger Coming to Birm. Groves Dec. 15

Straight-shooting public health expert talks nutrition and "How Not to Die"

Michael Greger, M.D., an internationally recognized author and public health expert, will lecture and debut his latest book, “How Not to Die,” on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at Birmingham Groves High School. Hosted by the nonprofit Plant Based Nutrition Support Group (PBNSG), the talk takes place from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. in the school’s Main Theater Auditorium located at 20500 W. Thirteen Mile Rd. in Beverly Hills.

Known for his straightforward and compelling presentations of scholarly research, Dr. Greger is a popular, internationally recognized speaker on nutrition, food safety and public health issues. He has appeared on “The Dr. Oz Show” and “The Colbert Report” and also served as expert witness in Oprah Winfrey’s defense in the infamous “meat defamation” trial.

Dr. Greger currently serves as director of public health and animal agriculture at the Humane Society of the United States, and he founded and actively maintains the nonprofit, science-based website www.nutritionfacts.org, featuring bite-sized videos on thousands of nutrition and health topics.

His newest book, “How Not to Die,” asserts that the vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through simple changes in diet and lifestyle. Examining the 15 top causes of death in America—heart disease, various cancers, diabetes, Parkinson’s, high blood pressure and others, Dr. Greger explains how nutritional and lifestyle interventions can sometimes trump drugs and surgical approaches, freeing us to live healthier lives.

Dr. Greger’s talk is part of a series on plant-based nutrition and health featuring nationally renowned experts, presented by PBNSG and sponsored by Whole Foods Market. Future lecture dates are Jan. 28, 2016 with internationally acclaimed author, TV host and medical director John McDougall M.D. live via Skype; Feb. 25 with groundbreaking author, scientific researcher and professor T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D.; March 9 with pioneering Cleveland Clinic physician Caldwell Esselstyn Jr., M.D. and March 31 with “The Plant-Based Dietitian” Julieanna Hever, all in the Groves High School Main Theater Auditorium.
