UPDATED: Off-Duty Police Officer Allegedly Showed Gun in Birmingham Road Rage
The Royal Oak Police Department made the stop; a 43-year-old Wixom man who identified himself as an off-duty police officer is in custody.

Birmingham police they’re seeking a warrant for the arrest of an off-duty Detroit police officer who allegedly brandished a handgun in an incident of road rage Friday afternoon.
Before deciding to charge the off-duty officer with offenses that could include brandishing a firearm or felonious assault, Oakland County prosecutors want to weigh the evidence including a 911 tape and video footage of the traffic stop, The Detroit News reports.

A Beverly Hills couple reportedly told police that the officer, who has not been identified, cut them off in traffic at about 7 p.m. Friday, drove erratically as both vehicles continued south on Woodward Avenue near Maple Road, and rolled down his window laid a Glock 40-caliber handgun across his chest as he pulled next to the couple.
The couple dialed 911.

Birmingham Police Commander Terry Kiernan said that whether the gun was pointed at the other couple will factor into the severity of charges – or if any will be filed.
“Whether it was pointed at them or not I don’t know,” he said. “It will make a big difference,” he said.
The officer was reportedly cooperative when stopped in Royal Oak.
Detroit police have declined comment until Birmingham’s investigation is complete.

An off-duty Detroit police officer was arrested in an incident of road rage after he allegedly displayed a handgun at another motorist about 7 p.m. Friday in Birmingham, police said in a statement Monday.
The vehicles were southbound on Woodward in the area of Maple when the incident occurred. The vehicles continued southbound into Royal Oak, where officers from the Royal Oak Police Department stopped it.
The driver, a 43 year old male from Wixom, identified himself as a Detroit police officer and was taken into custody by Birmingham officers.
A semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the vehicle, according to the statement. The driver was processed and released pending the reports being submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for charges. Detroit Police Internal Affairs Division was notified about the incident.
