Here's to You, Birmingham! New Wine Store Features More than 1,000 Selections

Old Woodward Cellar will offer delivery, curbside pickup and cellar appraisals.

(Originally posted on Dec. 9, 2016) BIRMINGHAM, MI — Cheers! A new wine store has opened in Birmingham. Old Woodward Cellar, owned by sommelier Nick Apone, features more than 1,000 selections, ranging in price from $15 to $15,000, Crain's Detroit Business is reporting.

The entire building, at 912 Old Woodward, was designed to preserve the wines and is the only store in the area with light-strike coatings on the windows, no west-facing windows and no UV lighting. It also features the Coravin wine system, which enables pouring wine without removing the cork, improving longevity of the bottle and allowing for sampling of wines without opening the bottle.

"We are dedicated to finding the very best wines from around the world in every region," Apone said in a news release. "Our main focus is on the wines of California, France and Italy, and all of the wine we stock is sampled before it is purchased. We only sell what we believe in."

In addition to selling wine, Old Woodward Cellar will offer cellar appraisals, curbside pickup, home delivery within a five-mile radius of the store, and will build a customer-specific database to track previous purchases and track preferences. The store features a walk-in temperature-and-humidity controlled fine wine cellar as well as a space for private events.
