5 Things You Should Know About This Week

From important government and school board meetings to the arts, there's a lot to take in this week in the Bloomfield Area.

1. Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees

The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees will likely meet as a six-member panel for the last time when they convene at 7 p.m. today in . The board is expected to appoint current Zoning Board of Appeals Chairwoman Corinne Khedarian to the open trustee seat and become its seventh member. The board will also discuss the appointment process for the ZBA vacancy left by Khedarian’s selection, and will discuss televising future board meetings.  

2. Bloomfield Hills Commission Meetings

The Bloomfield Hills Planning Commission meets at 4 p.m., and the City Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. Approval of a bid for the city’s Tree Beautification Program, discussion of the public safety operational plan and a review of monthly department reports are on the evening's agenda.

3. 'Amazing Race' Lock-in for Teens

The Bloomfield Township Public Library will host an Amazing Race-themed after hours lock-in for teens from 7-9 p.m. Friday. Participants will get to compete in tasks emulated from the popular CBS reality adventure show for prizes. Refreshments will be provided.

All teens 13-17 are invited, but registration is required. More information, including a parental permission form, are available on the library website.

4. Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education

The Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Gary Doyle Center for Professional Development, at 7275 Wing Lake Rd.

Among the items on the agenda are: a request to adopt a flexible benefits plan; special presentations on student assessments and school rankings; and the adoption of board goals.

5. Annual Festival of Arts

The annual Festival of Arts exhibition at the Nativity Episcopal Church is scheduled from Friday through Sunday. The event kicks off with a gala opening reception at 7 p.m. Friday for the artists and presenters to mingle with the guests.
