Bloomfield Hills Police Track Down Teen Suspected in Hit-Run Crash
A 55-year-old man suffered serious injuries Tuesday night when he was hit while bicycling.

A Dearborn teen could face charges in connection with striking a bicyclist with his vehicle along Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills and fleeing the scene Tuesday, police said.
Officers with the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety were called to the area of Woodward and Lone Pine Road for a report of a man lying in the roadway at about 8:45 p.m., according to reports. They found the man and began treating his injuries while they summoned an ambulance for transport to a local hospital. The 55-year-old man suffered serious injuries, but Chief Richard Matott said he had no further details on the victim’s status Wednesday. The man is homeless.
Callers to 911 reported that the man was on a bicycle when he was struck by the car in the roadway. Officers found crash debris consisting of silver-colored auto parts at the scene, and a witness told them a possible suspect vehicle was nearby on Chesterfield Road just off of Woodward Avenue, reports said.

An officer responded there and found a silver vehicle with front-end damage consistent with being involved in the crash, reports said. The driver, a 16-year-old Dearborn boy, was inside the vehicle and was detained without incident, the reports said. He was later released pending the police investigation into the crash.
The teen turned 16 two weeks ago and did have a valid driver’s license, Matott said. Further information about his prior driving or criminal records were unavailable. He was not injured.

Matott said investigators are still unsure whether the bicyclist was under the influence of alcohol but said the teen driver was being tested for being under the influence of marijuana, which officers found inside the vehicle.
The case should be forwarded to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office shortly, Matott said, and the teen could be charged with multiple crimes, including leaving the scene of a serious-injury accident.
