Bloomfield Hills Schools Announces New Security Officer, Amplifies Safety in District
Bloomfield Township Police Officer Cory Donberger is taking on a new title.

In a special announcement made Thursday, Bloomfield Hills Schools named Bloomfield Township Police Officer Cory Donberger as the district's new Security Officer.
Donberger has over 16 years of law enforcement experience with the Bloomfield Township Police Department. He acted as a school liaison for the district for six years and also has previously worked with Bloomfield Youth Guidance, a program that aims to enrich the lives of young people.
"Bloomfield Hills Schools has always been committed to the safety and security of our students," Superintendent Rob Glass said.
Glass mentioned that the district is 100 percent focused on maintaining safety and comfort within its buildings. He noted the Security Officer role as a precautionary response to the recent tragic events which have occurred in schools across the country, including a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut last December which left 20 children and six staff members dead.
Officer Donberger will be visiting all district buildings on a regular basis. As outlined by the district, his duties as Security Officer will include:
- Conducting thorough assessments of current department and school policies and procedures as they apply to emergency and security responses, updating as needed
- Working with local fire officials to ensure that fire and tornado drills are conducted and executed properly
- Making recommendations to school administration for any security enhancements which require infrastructure upgrades
- Responding to emergencies and calls for assistance in the nearby community, as any other "on-duty officer" would
- Meeting with administrators, staff, students and parents to improve school/police relations in the areas of security and emergency response
According to Bloomfield Township Chief of Police Geof Gaudard, Donberger was selected from a group of highly-qualified officers and then shifted through an intense interview process, including meeting with a panel of school officials.
"He is the best of the best," reassured Gaudard, who also called Donberger "level-headed, detail-oriented and an effective communicator".
Donberger is married to an elementary school teacher and is the father of two school-aged children.
"This position is one of a kind," Donberger said, who added that he is excited for the opportunity. "This [position] provided yet another way to service our community."
