Bomb Squad Called to Investigate Suspicious Package in Bloomfield Township

Authorities said the package was fashioned to look like a bomb but contained no explosives.

 

Bloomfield Township police are trying to determine who left a suspicious package made to look like a bomb in the rear of a parking lot along Telegraph Road on Monday.

Officers responded to the area of Telegraph and Square Lake Road after the package was discovered by a witness that called 9-1-1 shortly before noon Monday, officials said. Traffic was diverted around the shopping area while members of the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene, wxyz.com reported

Authorities have not released many details about the package, but confirmed that at first glance it appeared to have components similar to an explosive device. Experts with the bomb squad used a robot to retrieve the device and determined it did not contain any explosives. There were no injuries and traffic resumed in the area by early afternoon.
