Identity Theft Suspect Arrested at Bank; Dogs Missing After Home Invasion

Identity Theft

An Eastpointe man faces identity theft charges after police said he tried to withdraw $8,800 from a valid account using another person's identity at a Bloomfield Township bank last week.

Tyrone Todd, 54, is charged with one felony count of identity theft for the Aug. 29 incident at the branch at 1116 W. Long Lake Road, reports said. Todd allegedly entered the bank during the afternoon and tried to make the withdrawal with a teller. The employee became suspicious and delayed the transaction long enough for Bloomfield Township police officers to arrive and arrest the man without incident, reports said. Further details about the case were not immediately available.

Todd is no longer at the Oakland County Jail and awaits a preliminary hearing in next week, records show.

  • A resident in the 500 block of S. Fox Hills Drive told police she returned home on Sept. 6 and found a door forced open and her dogs missing, police reports said. The woman told police she believed the incident may be related to a prior domestic incident with another individual who's identity was not disclosed at this time. The investigation is ongoing and there were no updates immediately available on the dogs.
  • A homeowner in the 1700 block of Ledbury Drive told police they returned home on Aug. 30 to find the door connecting the garage to the home kicked in. Reports said the home was ransacked, and that jewelry, cash and a television were taken. The total estimated value of the stolen property was unavailable.

Larceny

An employee at reported that someone stole nearly $300 cash from her purse while she worked her shift on Aug. 30. No suspect information was available.

Harassing Calls

A series of harassing phone calls and text messages prompted a resident in the 2000 block of Hickory Grove Road to call police last week, reports said. The resident told officers with the on Aug. 30 that she received a series of calls and texts from an unknown person throughout the day. An officer's attempt to contact the sender was unsuccessful, reports said.

The resident returned to the department on Sept. 1 and told officers that the messages persisted after she changed her phone number. Investigators have since located the owner of the phone sending the message, but are still investigating who was actually sending the messages.

Larceny Reported

Officers also investigated a reported larceny at the Woodward Hills Nursing Center on Sept. 4, according to reports. They were called to the center, at 39312 Woodward Ave., at about noon to speak to a resident that said someone took $200 from her purse. The theft reportedly occurred sometime between 11 p.m. Sept. 1 and about 9 a.m. Sept. 2. The investigation is open and no suspect information was available.
