Local Student's Artwork on Display at Nation's Capitol

Harrison Noh chosen as winner of the 9th District's Congressional Art Competition.

A Bloomfield Hills student has left his mark on Capitol Hill through art.

Harrison Noh, who will be a senior at the International Academy next fall, on Thursday was named the winner to the Congressional Art Competition for the 9th District, a letter from U. S. Rep. Gary Peters stated.

His painting is now prominently placed in the U.S. Capitol with the other winning selections from every congressional district in the country. The artwork will be on display for a full year.

The annual competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the nation through each congressional district.

Students submit their entries to their representative’s office in the spring and local winners are selected by panels of local artists in each district.  The judges narrowed the field to five and residents voted online to determine the winner.

Finalists also included Noh's classmate Alice Liu, and Mara Stein, who will enter her senior year at Bloomfield Hills Andover next fall, said Peters staffer Vicki Christner.

The program started in 1982 and has drawn more than 650,000 participants.

It's not the first time Noh has been honored nationally for his artwork. In 2008, he was named winner of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling’s 2008 financial literacy poster contest.
