Mail Fraud Reported; 2 Cited For Pot Possession; Auto Burglary Investigation Continues

Mail fraud reported

The Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety investigated a claim of mail tampering outside a home on Barbara Lane and turned over its findings to a the U.s. Postal Inspector in Detroit, officials said.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Barbara Lane about 1:40 p.m.  June 29 after a resident reported seeing a man run to a mailbox and remove all the contents. The resident said the man was driving a late-model Mercedes and appeared to be headed out of the subdivision when he stopped and took the mail.

The mailbox owner told police officers that only letters addressed to their grandchildren were in there at the time.

No detailed description of the suspect was available. The information was forwarded to the postal inspector, reports said.

Suspicious vehicle call leads to marijuana arrest

Two young adults were arrested for suspected marijuana possession after they were caught smoking in a vehicle parked in a residential neighborhood, police reports said.

Officers were called for a suspicious vehicle parked in the cul-de-sac on Endicott Road at about 10:20 on June 29. The officers found two people inside the vehicle and smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the interior, reports said. They also found drug paraphernalia and a suspected marijuana in a small baggie and a mason jar.

The suspects, both 18, were processed at the Department of Public Safety and released. One received with a citation for marijuana possession and the other was released pending a warrant for drug possession with intent to deliver. The investigation remains open.

Police probe auto burglary outside business

Bloomfield Hills police are still investigating a late-morning auto burglary outside a commercial property in the 41000 block of Woodward Avenue from June 24, according to reports. Officers responded to the area about 11:30 a.m. and encountered the owner who said someone smashed the passenger side window of her blue Honda Civic and took her purse. Her wallet, credit cards and cell phone were reported stolen. No one reported seeing anything suspicious to officers at the time of the incident, reports said.
