On the Agenda: Bloomfield Hills Commissioners to Award Tree Contract; Review Responsibilities

Both the city's planning and city commissions meet today 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively, at City Hall.

Five area companies returned the City of Bloomfield Hills' request for proposals on a plan to put 100 trees in the median of Woodward Avenue. Tonight, city commissioners are poised to award a contract for the Tree Beautification Program. The low bidder, KLM Landscaping of Washington, Mi., will complete the project for just under $30,000. If the commission accepts the bid, planting could start by early October, city documents show.

The commission will also consider a new contract for non-union employees. The new contract calls for the employee contribution for health care to increase to $250 beginning on Jan. 1, 2012, to cover a 10 percent deductible under the city's health care plan. The contract, if approved, will run through June 30, 2012.

Also on the agenda are:

  • A presentation on the Public Safety Operational Plan.
  • An update on the individual lead responsibilities developed by the commission.
  • A review of monthly department reports.
  • A resolution honoring Zoning Board of Appeals member Shirley Irwin.
  • A closed session discussion on union negotiations with labor attorney Malcolm Brown.

The planning commission will consider a request for entrance gates at a property in the 400 block of Martell Drive; and hear an informal presentation on potential renovations to 71 E. Long Lake Rd.
