On the Agenda: Bloomfield Township to Appoint New Trustee, Consider Televising Public Meetings
The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees meets at 7 p.m. tonight in Township Hall.

The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees will likely appoint Corinne Khederian to the open seat vacated by now-Supervisor Leo Savoie.
Savoie, Clerk Jan Roncelli, and trustees Neal Barnett and Brian Kepes publicly endorsed Khederian following presentations before the board last week.
Neither Treasurer Dan Devine nor Trustee David Buckley endorsed a candidate, but Devine did say the township would be served well by Khederian or fellow candidate Dr. Scot Goldberg, and Buckley called for unanimity on Monday’s vote. The board has until the end of the business on Thursday to fill the vacancy, or state law dictates the county clerk to call for a special election.

Khederian has chaired the township’s Zoning Board of Appeals since 2005 and Goldberg is currently chairman of the planning commission. Regardless of who’s selected, the township board will have to replace a key member of either panel. The appointment process for either of those posts will also be discussed Monday night.
Community Relations Director Leslie Helwig will present the board with background information and potential options for the consistent video recording of township meetings. Upon taking office last month, Savoie said it was a priority to meet the public’s demand for televised meetings demonstrated during the supervisor appointment process. The July 25 meeting during which Savoie was appointed supervisor was the first township board meeting ever televised or streamed online. That meeting and recordings of others since are also available on the township website. The Oakland Press also live-streamed multiple township meetings last month.
