Police: Postal Employee Finds Wandering Child; Burglary in Bloomfield Township

Child Found Wandering

A mailman on his route in the 500 block of East Fox Hills found a small child wandering around unsupervised last week, according to reports. The postal employee called police shortly after 3 p.m. Jan. 3 and held onto the boy until Bloomfield Township police officers arrived. 

Authorities identified the child, who is about 3-years-old, and located his residence within the apartment complex. No injuries were reported. The boy's mother told officers she believed the child was asleep and that she fell asleep as well. The department referred their report to Child Protective Services, reports said.

Cell Phone Store Burglary

Thieves stole roughly $3,200 worth of merchandise from the Wireless Network store on the township's north side last week, reports said. Officers responded to an alarm at the store at about 12:45 a.m. on Jan. 8 and found the front door glass smashed. No suspect information was available.

Catalytic Converter Theft

The catalytic converter of a vehicle parked outside Georgian Bloomfield at 2975 N. Adams Rd. was stolen last month, police said. The incident occurred sometime between 8 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Dec. 23, but was not reported until last week, according to reports.

Similar thefts were reported at Honda Bloomfield between Dec. 22 and Dec. 26, police currently are investigating at least a dozen different incidents since the spring. No suspect information is available.

The converters, which are used to filter engine emissions, are commonly targeted by thieves because of the valuable metal components inside, such as platinum or palladium. Police urged residents and shoppers to be aware of anyone seen underneath a vehicle in a parking lot and to report any suspicious behavior to police immediately.

Larceny from Auto

A resident in the 2000 block of Turtle Lake reported that someone stole a wallet from an unlocked vehicle on Jan. 4, reports said. The victim said the vehicle was parked on Turtle Lake while he worked on a nearby construction project. No suspect information was available.

Bloomfield Hills

Home Invasion

Officers with the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety investigated a home invasion complaint in the 2000 block of Eastways earlier this month, according to reports. An employee of the homeowner discovered the entry door to the garage smashed in on Jan. 2 and called authorities.

Police checked the home and nothing was reported missing, reports said. No suspect information was available.

Damaged Vehicle

An officer responded to the 1000 block of Stratford Lane for a property damage complaint at about 6 p.m. Jan. 3, reports said. The homeowner reported that the driver’s side window of his 2008 red GMC pickup truck was shattered when he returned home. Authorities believe the damage occurred the previous night while parked in the driveway. No suspect information was available.
