Police: Lawncare Equipment, Catalytic Converter Stolen

Bloomfield Township police are investigating the theft of lawn care equipment from a landscaping crew that was working in the 300 block of S. Williamsbury Rd. last week, police reports said.

A weed whip and a backpack blower were taken from a work trailer shortly after noon on July 6, reports said. The employees were working in a spot where the trailer was out of view. Witnesses told officers that a green or teal older model Buick sedan was seen in the area of the trailer at the time of the theft, but no suspect descriptions were available. The items taken were worth roughly $800, reports said.

Officers in Bloomfield Township and Bloomfield Hills have investigated similar reports over the past few months.

Catalytic Converter Cut Out

A resident in the 6000 block of Whethersfield Road reported that the catalytic converter was cut from beneath a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am parked outdoors. The theft reportedly occurred between July 6 and July 8. No suspect information was available.

The converter, which is used to filter the engine's emissions, is targeted by thieves because of valuable metals used to make them, authorities said.

Officers investigated a similar complaint at the Bloomfield Country Manor in March. No suspects were identified.

Home Invasions

4400 block of West Maple Road: A Homeowner reported that someone entered her home through an unlocked rear door while she worked in the yard, and took $17,000 worth of jewelry, reports said. No suspect information was available.

1900 block of Raymond Place: The homeowner told police that a men's Schwinn mountain bike was taken from an open garage sometime between July 1 and July 6, reports said. The bicycle is valued at about $650. No suspect information was available.
