Police Blotter: Man Damages Vehicle, Police Cruiser by Jumping on Them

Following are highlights from recent police reports:

Bloomfield Township

Man detained after damaging vehicles

A 19-year-old Rochester Hills man was placed into protective custody and transported to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after he jumped on one civilian vehicle and a police car last week, police said.

Bloomfield Township police were called to the 200 block of Barrington Drive just after 11 p.m. on May 24th for malicious destruction of property complaint, according to police reports. Officers found the man in the roadway yelling incoherently and highly agitated, reports said. When they tried to question him about breaking out a windshield on a parked vehicle by repeatedly jumping on it, the man surprised officers and jumped onto the hood of their vehicle.

He then ran up the windshield and onto the roof before he was restrained without further incident, report said. No injuries were reported and damage estimates were unavailable.

Larceny from auto

• 4900 block of Rands Street: A digital camera was taken from unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence sometime overnight between May 24 and 25. No suspect information was available.
• 5500 block of Franklin Road: A homeowner reported that someone also entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway and stole a digital camera sometime overnight between May 24 and 25. No suspect information was available.

Home invasion

• 300 block of Kendry Street: A front door was forced open and miscellaneous jewelry was taken sometime between May 29 and May 30, police reports said. No suspect information was available.

Bloomfield Hills

Purse taken, then recovered

Officers with the investigated a stolen purse complaint in the 39000 block of Woodward Avenue on Tuesday, police reports said. A woman who works the overnight shift said she left her purse and coat in an unsecured, common area at about 11 p.m. Monday and proceeded to work. The purse, which contained her identification and house and car keys was missing when her shift ended at 7 a.m., reports said.

The woman's vehicle was still in the parking lot, and officers could not find the purse in the parking lot or several trash dumpsters in the area. The woman called police at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after she said the purse was found in another part of the building. The purse was returned with all its contents, reports said. The case remains under investigation.

Fraudulent phone account set with stolen identity

Officers also took an identity theft report from a resident in the 1000 block of Barrington Park Drive who said he was receiving collection calls regarding a phone account that wasn't his, police reports said. Officers checked with the phone company and learned that someone opened an account with the resident's personal information and ran up a bill exceeding $1,000. No suspect information was available and the investigation is ongoing.
