Police Blotter: Armed Robbery, Larcenies Investigated by Bloomfield Township and Bloomfield Hills Police

Bloomfield Township police are still searching for a suspect that robbed an oil-change shop last week. Officers responded to Uncle Ed’s Oil Shop just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 29 for an armed robbery report. The victim said a vehicle pulled into the business' parking lot just after closing time and a man exited the vehicle’s passenger side. The man then pointed a gun at the employee, who came out to tell them the business was closed.

The gunman walked the employee back into the shop, demanded money, and took $150 from a cash register before fleeing. No one was injured.

The man was described as Hispanic, about 5-feet-9 inches tall and between 20-25 years old. No further description of the man or the vehicle was available.

Larcenies Reported

Bloomfield Township police are also investigating two larcenies reported last week. The first occurred in the 3200 South Blvd. and was reported after property owners discovered copper piping was taken from a vacant building. The theft occurred sometime between Sept. 27 and Oct. 1, police reports said. No suspect information was available.

The second was reported on Oct. 5 after employees for a landscaping company discovered two backpack-style leaf blowers and an edger were taken from an unlocked trailer while on a job at Temple Beth El. The thefts occurred between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., reports said. No suspect information was available.

It is not the first of these type of thefts reported in the area.

Bloomfield Township police were also called to the 400 block of South Fox Hills Drive on Aug. 19 after two backpack leaf blowers were discovered missing from an open garage. No suspects have been identified.

Bloomfield Hills police are investigating similar thefts involving leaf blowers that were taken from landscaping crews in the 1000 block of Country Club Drive and 100 block of Merrimac Court on Sept. 9, police reports said.

Those thefts occurred between 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Officers with the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety also took a larceny report from a student at Cranbrook that claimed his wallet containing $350 was taken on Sept. 29, reports said. The student reported the wallet was last seen the previous day at about 2 p.m. and was missing when he went to pay for a pizza delivery before he called police. The incident remains under investigation.

Multiple Home Invasions Probed

Bloomfield Township police are investigating two home invasions reported in the last week. The first was in the 2500 block of Yorkshire Lane On Sept. 30. Residents reported that unknown suspects forced open a door leading to the garage, and then forced their way into the home, reports said. Police said the home was ransacked and several pieces of jewelry were taken. The theft occurred sometime between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Ardmoor Drive on Oct. 4 after residents returned to find their home ransacked, police reports said. They determined an intruder forced open a door and stole a sfe containing cash and several pieces of jewelry. The break-in occurred sometime between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

No suspect information was available in either incident.
