Police Blotter: Arrest Made in Retail Fraud, More Larcenies at L.A. Fitness

Shoplifter arrested

Bloomfield Township police officers arrested a woman that tried to steal roughly $150 worth of clothing from Kmart earlier this month, police reports stated. The officers responded to the story at about 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 8 and arrested the 19-year-old woman without incident. Officers also found marijuana in her possession, reports said.

The woman was booked and released pending formal charges for retail fraud and marijuana possession.

  • Bloomfield Township police reported two more larceny incidents at the L.A. Fitness last week. Officers said that locked and unlocked lockers at the fitness facility were entered by an unknown suspect who stole cash, credit cards and cell phones. Police said stolen credit cards have been used at area stores shortly after the thefts, including after a theft was reported at about 2:50 p.m. on Dec. 4. No suspect information was available.
  • An unlocked vehicle parked in the 400 block of Wooddale drive was entered overnight on Dec. 13, police reports said. Cash and a GPS unit were taken. The vehicle was parked in the driveway and there was no damage reported. No suspect information was available. 

Attempted Auto Theft 

The owner of a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country in the 4100 block of Telegraph Road reported an attempted auto theft on Tuesday, reports said.

The owner discovered damage to the steering column, but no dollar value was available. The attempted theft occurred sometime between Nov. 30 and Dec. 13, reports said.

Business Burglary

Officers responded to Uncle Ed’s Oil Shoppe on Wednesday after employees reported a broken window upon arriving for their shifts. A burglar entered the business and stole $150, police reports said. No suspect information was available.

Bloomfield Hills

Multiple laptops stolen at Cranbrook

The Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety investigating two separate reports of larcenies of laptop computers at Cranbrook-Kingswood this week, according to reports.

An officer responded to the 39000 block of Woodward at about 4 p.m. on Dec. 12 after the computer was discovered missing from an unsecured studio/classroom. Police searched the area but did not find the Apple MacBook is valued at more than $1,000.  The theft reportedly occurred sometime between Dec. 8 and Dec. 12. No suspect information was available.

Officers responded to the school again at about 2 p.m. on Dec. 13 for a report of another stolen Apple MacBook, reports said. The owner told police they looked for the computer unsuccessfully for about two weeks before reporting it stolen. The theft is believed to have occurred on either Dec. 2 or Dec. 3. No suspect information was available.

Both incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call the department at 248-644-4200.
