Police Blotter: Credit Card Fraud, Harassing Phone Calls

Food service company defrauded
Bloomfield Hills police said they are investigating a possible fraud involving a credit card that was used to make more than $1,000 in unauthorized purchases on behalf of a local food service provider.
A manager from Chartwells Food Service went to the on July 27 to report a credit card theft that resulted in unusually large charges, a report said. Investigators traced the card and learned it was actually listed in the name of a resident in the 500 block of Lone Pine Road, but under Chartwell’s account.
The unusual activity started in July.

Police Chief Richard Matott said officers identified a person of interest in the case and the investigation was ongoing.
Police investigate harassing phone calls
Officers from the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety are investigating whether charges could be brought against a man who made repeated phone calls to another person’s workplace in the city. An employee from a business in the 41000 block of Woodward Avenue called police at about 1 p.m. July 27 to report receiving 15 harassing phone calls from someone out of state, reports said.

Authorities contacted the phone service provider and blocked the person’s number. Follow-up inquiries will be made to determine to if prosecution is possible, Police Chief Richard Matott said.
