Police Blotter: Home Invasions and Fraud Investigated; Lacrosse Equipment Stolen at Cranbrook

Following are highlights from recent police reports:

Bloomfield Township

Home invasions

• 200 block of Clifton: Bloomfield Township police responded to the home on Tuesday after the resident discovered several pieces of jewelry missing, reports said. The resident said they were planting flowers in the front yard between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., and that the back door and garage door were left unlocked. There were no signs of forced entry and no suspect information was available.
• 42000 block of Woodward Avenue: A resident reported several pieces of jewelry were stolen between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on May 28, according to reports. There were no signs of forced entry and no suspect information was available.

Larceny from auto

 The window of a Ford Flex was smashed while parked overnight in the 900 block of S. Shadyhollow Circle. A briefcase containing documents was taken. The crime is believed to have occurred between May 30 and May 31, reports said.

Fraud

A resident in the 5000 block of Echo Road reported that several unauthorized charges were made to his bank account through his debit card, reports said. The man said he had possession of his debit card, but that the charges were made to his account repeatedly between May 15 and June 2. The charges occurred throughout southeast Michigan. No suspect information was available.

Bloomfield Hills

Lacrosse equipment stolen at Cranbrook

Patrol officers with the detained two juveniles accused of stealing lacrosse equipment from Cranbrook's athletic fields during a lacrosse event last weekend, reports said.

Officers were flagged down by Cranbrook security at about 2 p.m. June 2 after the guards caught the two teens with the equipment. The items, valued at more than $300, were shoplifted from two vendors displaying equipment for sale. Reports said one of the youths admitted taking the items and the other said they attempted to return an item for cash when the vendor realized he was ripped off. He then called campus security.

Police called the parents of each suspect and alerted them to pick up the youths from the police department. The vendor told officers they did not wish to press charges as long as the merchandise was returned, reports said. The case will be forwarded to the Oakland County Juvenile Division.

Check fraud investigation

Officers with the responded to a business in the 39000 block of Woodward Avenue on Monday after a bank employee reported someone tried to cash a bogus check, police reports said. The employee said the person entered the branch at about 11 a.m. and tried to cash a check for $4,600. Reports said that the bank employee followed standard procedure to verify the check, including calling the check writer, and the check was cashed.

Officers later learned that the same person was suspected of cashing similar checks at two more branches by 4 p.m. that day before they were arrested by authorities in a different jurisdiction, reports said. Further details were not immediately available, but police do believe the person called to verify that they wrote the check is an accomplice, reports said. No charges have been filed and the case remains under investigation.
