Police Blotter: Officers Investigate Larcenies, Home Invasions, Identity Theft

The following information was supplied by the Bloomfield Township Police Department and Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety. Where they are mentioned, arrests do not indicate conviction.

Following are highlights of recent Bloomfield Township and Bloomfield Hills police reports:

Bloomfield Township

Larcenies

  • Bloomfield Township police officers were called to in the early morning hours of Jan. 5 after employees reported that a salt spreader was taken off of a vehicle belonging to the school sometime overnight. No estimated value or suspect information was available.
  • Officers also responded to the for reports of gas driveaway shortly after 9 p.m. Jan. 4, reports said. Employees told police a man pumped $33 worth of gas into his vehicle and took off without paying. The man was described as between 35-40 years old and driving a Ford Focus. Further details were unavailable.

  • Officers responded to the 2300 block of Mulberry Square on Jan. 11 and found a sliding glass door was pried open when no one was home, reports said. A Bose CD/radio and jewelry was taken. The break-in occurred sometime between 6:30-10 p.m.
  • Homeowners in the 5500 block of Brookdale called police after discovering a break-in at their home Jan. 9, police reports said. The glass window in the front door was smashed to gain entry and the homeowner told officers the security alarm was not set at the time. A laptop and cash were taken. 
  • A resident in the 4200 block of Covered Bridge reported someone stole his wallet from his home while he was home Jan. 4 or early Jan. 5, police said. The thief entered through an unlocked door and stole the wallet sometime between 7 p.m. and 3:15 a.m. the following morning, according to reports. Officers found the wallet on another road within the subdivision and all the cash and credit cards were gone. Police said one of the cards was used a short time later Meijer on Telegraph Road in Southfield. No suspect information was available.

Bloomfield Hills

  • Officers with the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety are investigating a report filed Jan. 5 by an Auburn Hills resident that claimed his identity was stolen, reports said. He said Consumers Energy refused to turn on his gas until he settled a 2006 bill for more than $500 for a home in the 100 block of East Hickory Grove Road in Bloomfield Hills. The man told officers he never lived at that location and wanted the incident reported to authorities. The case remains under investigation pending further follow up with the utility provider.
  • Officers are also investigating a larceny from auto complaint filed by a resident in the 100 block of Renton Court, reports show. The resident called police at 1 p.m. Jan. 5 and said someone entered his car overnight and took an iPod valued at $200 and a wrapped Christmas present that contained a Cole Haan handbag, valued at roughly $500. The man said he was unsure if the vehicle was unlocked and police found no signs of forced entry, reports said.
