Police Blotter: Troy Teen Charged After Threatening to Blow Up Bloomfield Hills Home Over $100 Debt

A Troy teenager was charged as an adult with extortion after authorities said he allegedly threatened to blow up a Bloomfield Hills woman's home over a $100 debt involving her son.
Robert Rink, 17, was arraigned last week on one count of extortion at in Bloomfield Township and remains in custody on $10,000 bond, a police report stated. Jail records show he also faces one count of possessing tobacco products while underage and remained in custody as of Friday.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police said they arrested Rink outside a home in the 1000 block of Hammond Court shortly after 12:30 p.m. on May 29. The homeowner called police after he allegedly knocked on the door and she said he showed up the day before to collect a $100 debt from the homeowner's son. He threatened to blow up the house before leaving if she didn't pay, a report said.
Officers found Rink in a vehicle parked outside the home and arrested him upon discovering cigarettes in the vehicle because he is underage. They also found multiple containers of lighter fluid.
Upon further questioning, Rink initially said he was robbed by the homeowner's son of the $100 at knife-point in a Troy park, but didn't report it. Rink later recanted that story to Troy police who interviewed him at the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety, the report said.
Homeowner discovers signs of attempted break-in
Bloomfield Hills police said they are investigating an attempted break-in at home over Memorial Day weekend.
An officer responded to the 2000 block of Hickory Glen Drive at about 4:30 p.m. May 30 for a possible home invasion, a police report said. The homeowner told the officer he was away for a few days and had trouble unlocking his door upon returning earlier that day.
Once he unlocked the dead bolt, the homeowner said he noticed damage surrounding the lock assembly. Reports said it appeared someone tried to pry the door open, but entry was not gained. Officers photographed the scene and no suspect information was available.

Multiple mailboxes damaged in same neighborhood
Several residents in the 3100 block of Dorchester Avenue reported their mailboxes were knocked off their poles and destroyed sometime between May 29 and May 30, a report said.
No damage estimates were available and police did not release any information about possible suspects or suspicious vehicles.
Thieves nab hundreds of dollars worth of lottery tickets
Bloomfield Township police officers responded to the at 1501 Opdyke Rd. shortly after a clerk reported scores of lottery tickets missing on May 31, a report said. The clerk told police a male and female entered the station at about 1:15 p.m. and took $310 worth of lottery tickets on display.
They were last seen leaving in a gray van. No further descriptions were immediately available. The incident was reported to the state lottery commission.
