Police Blotter: Woman Arrested in Phone Fraud Scheme; More Metal and Rim Thefts

Following are highlights from recent Bloomfield Township Police Department reports:
Arrest in Discount Cell Phone Scam
Officers arrested a woman who allegedly misrepresented herself as an employee of a business to fraudulently obtain cell phones at a discount from the AT&T store in Bloomfield Township, police reports show. Police were called to the store, located at 42857 Woodward Ave., at about 7:30 p.m. on May 18 when the woman tried to purchase several phones for the second time that day.

Earlier, employees that sold her several phones at a substantial discount discovered she was not a representative from the company, as she claimed before leaving with the merchandise. The 40-year-old Detroit woman was arrested without incident and released pending further investigation.
Metal thieves strike apartments
An employee with the reported that metal poles attached to the wooden gates on the property were stolen on May 23, according to police reports. The theft is believed to have occurred sometime overnight. Reports said a man in his 20s was seen in the area prior to the thefts and drove an older model white Chevy S-10 pickup truck with a yellow cap.

Home invasion
- 900 block of Dowling: Cash, jewelry and sterling silver serving dishes were stolen; entry was through an unlocked patio door. No suspect information was available.
Larcenies
- 2400 block of Mulberry Square: A tire an rim were taken from a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr parked in the driveway. No suspect information was available. Police are still investigating parked overnight in different areas of the township.
- 90 block of Manor Road: A homeowner reported patio furniture was taken from outdoors sometime between May 12 and May 19. No suspect information was available.
