Police: Suspect Arrested in Bloomfield Twp. Rite Aid Robbery

A Detroit man was charged with armed robbery this week for a hold-up at a Bloomfield Township drug store, police said.

Ronald Wallace, 47, faces one count of armed robbery following his arrest Jan. 3. The parole absconder turned himself in to Detroit Police at the 12th Precinct and was transferred to the Bloomfield Township Police Department for further investigation.

Investigators said they believe Wallace entered the Rite Aid on Woodward Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. on Jan. 2, implied he a gun, and demanded money from an employee, police reports said. The clerk handed him nearly $400 in cash and a pack of cigarettes. No one was injured. Authorities collected forensic evidence from the scene that identified Wallace as a suspect, reports said.

During questioning Wallace, confessed to the crime, according to a report. He remained at the Oakland County Jail on $25,000 cash bond Friday morning pending a preliminary hearing next week, records show.

Wallace was convicted of armed robbery in Wayne County in 1988, prison records show. He served at least a dozen years in prison since then on four other convictions, including escaping from prison, unarmed robbery and drug trafficking.
