Once a place of nonstop hustle and bustle, the building which once housed the Bloomfield Hills Post Office is now a site of dark windows and overgrown weeds, since sitting vacant for nearly two years.
The postal service moved out of the 71 E. Long Lake Road location and migrated just a few miles to the north at 2050 South Blvd., in early July 2011. The closure was announced the previous year and persisted despite a letter-writing appeal from residents coordinated by the city.
Despite one group expressing interest in wanting to purchase the building in the past, offers have since been quiet.
"There was some speculation at some point that doctors were going to buy the facility and convert it into some type of medical use or private practice but that hasn't moved forward," City Manager Jay Cravens said.
Cravens also adds that neither the City Commission or Planning Commission have not received any requests for development review since that time.
