Who Won Hotly Contested Race in 11th Congressional District?

Republican Dave Trott andDemocrat Bobby McKenzie sparred in debates and in paid advertisements.

With all votes counted, Republican Dave Trott has defeated Democrat Bobby McKenzie for the right to represent Michigan’s 11th District in Congress.

Trott had 138,229, or 56 percent of the votes, compared with McKenzie’s 100,665, or 41 percent, of the votes.

“I’m anxious to go to Washington and be the change you all want to see,” Trott said at a victory party in Novi, according to a report from The Detroit News. “I’m proud and I’m honored… I hope I do you proud. I’m sure going to work hard at it.”

Trott and McKenzie both fought hard to represent the district that U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio is vacating. The campaign was often bitter, with the bad blood apparent in campaign advertisements and a debate on a local political television show, the newspaper said.
