‘You Can’t Police Stupidity’: Moms, Toddlers Hit by Car
Motorist was "gunning his motor, drawing attention to himself" when he lost control of his vehicle and jumped the curb, police said.

ROSEVILLE, MI — A 22-year-old Roseville man was “intentionally drawing attention to himself” when his vehicle jumped a curb, throwing two young children from their strollers and knocking their mothers to the ground as they took a walk at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
Roseville Police Chief James said in a statement that the children, one 3 years old and the other 11 months old, and their mothers are expected to recover. The younger child, a boy, remains hospitalized for treatment of facial injuries. The others were treated and released.
The driver, who hasn’t been named, was charged with reckless driving and released on $500 personal bond. The charges against him could have been much more serious, Berlin said.

“There’s not much to say. You can’t police stupidity and obviously that’s what this driver was. You can quote me on that,” Berlin told The Detroit News. “He was showing off, squealing his tires and all that. A couple feet either way and this could have been much more tragic that it already is.”
In an interview with WWJ Radio, Berlin said the driver was “acting like a jerk” when he approached a stop sign at 12 Mile Road Tuesday evening.

He was “gunning his motor, drawing attention to himself” as he waited for the traffic to clear so he could make a turn, then took off at a high rate of speed, “did a doughnut” in the middle of 12 Mile and then lost control of his vehicle, Berlin said.
It didn’t appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, Berlin said.
“I was a stupid act on this kid’s part and he’s very, very lucky he’s not facing murder charges today,” Berlin told WWJ.
