Bike Ride Part of New Healthy Dearborn Initiative

The first-time event promotes fun, fitness and wellness.

The city of Dearborn and Beaumont Health are partnering in a family friendly guided bike ride through the heart of Dearborn on Sunday, Oct. 18, as part of the new Healthy Dearborn Initiative.

Registration for the he Healthy Dearborn Family Bike Ride begins at 9:30 a.m.; the ride starts at 10 a.m.

The new Dearborn initiative, aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles.

The bike ride begins and ends at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave., taking off from King Boring Field onto Greenfield Road. From there, riders will follow a designated 6.5-mile route through the center of the city.

The ride will be police assisted. Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome. Before biking, participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver, available at the event or online. Those who wish to participate in the event without going on the guided bike ride are invited to check out The Center free of charge on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult for this family event.

The Center’s fitness area and rock climbing wall will be available starting at 10 a.m., and open swimming will begin at 11 a.m.

Families with young children and other cyclists who don’t want to ride on the road are welcome to pedal the outdoor paved path that surrounds The Center.

Healthy snacks, water, and materials with safe bicycling tips and rules will also be available.
