Hello my fellow Wing-Nuts and welcome to the Red Wings blog here on Dearborn Patch!
My name is Kathryn, but feel free to call me Kat, and I will be keeping you all up-to-date on all things Red Wings for the 2011-2012 season.
We are still weeks away from the first puck drop of the season, and I wanted to take some time to get everyone acquainted with this blog and my ideas for it. For the regular season I see this being weekly with recaps from the previous games as well as information on the upcoming games. For the playoffs it could be after every game or at the end of a series. And of course I will make short blogs on any breaking news, injuries, trades etc. if they happen before the next blog.

This summer seems to have taken its time to get to this point, but my excitement for this season has already begun to grow. While we lost Dearborn native Brian Rafalski, Chris Osgood and Kris Draper to retirement it means our youngsters have a chance at more ice time and to shine even brighter! How did you feel with their retirements and is there a player you are excited for that may have more ice time this season?
We are also welcoming back Goalie Ty Conklin (#29) (St. Louis Blues) and introducing defensemen Mike Commodore (#22) (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Ian White (#18) (San Jose Sharks) to the Wings!

Training camp starts in Traverse City on Sept. 17, preseason starts Sept. 21, and the season starts at home on Oct. 7. So sharpen those skates, tape those sticks, pull the sweaters out of the closets and get ready for some hockey!
Go Wings!
