Recipes for a Healthy You That Don't Involve Cooking: Life Lessons

Do you turn the lemons of your life into lemonade?

Today proved to be a day of life lessons! Isn't life about living, though? Well, sometimes that is the problem ... living life!

You've heard this saying many times I'm sure: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!  I personally prefer a lime and tequila, but hey – to each their own!

But what exactly does that saying mean?

Tonight's trivial issues for me have been one of my dogs wanting out of the house at least six times since 7 p.m. Yes, it's only 11 p.m. Let's just say adding a pet door has been on my mind! I know that's not realistic but the thought of not having to get up every time my dog whines is rather appealing. Did I get aggravated with her for whining to go out? Yes, I did! Every time I opened my side door the wind would whip it out of my hand, or at least try to. It's really windy out. HOWEVER, it's mild and warm for January. I honestly don't mind. I need the exercise anyway.

But what happens if your issue today is that you lost your job? How would you handle that? How many of you have lost your jobs? Maybe we should really look at this more closely!

Today, the way it works is that there are so many people looking for work, they don't care if they are over-qualified, they'll be happy with half the pay and benefits. It's actually sad that this is the way we are living now, but again, it is what it is! So, with that, how do YOU handle the words "You're fired"??

Whether you hated your job or not, that money paid for your house, car, food and everything else that you need to survive. So, as you're walking to your car leaving your old employer's building, are you crying? Are you looking around you but you don't see a thing because you are so distraught? Or, are you looking in front of you, with your head held high, knowing that there is an opportunity waiting out there for you?

Your reaction to your situation is going to be a direct reflection of your outcome. Do you curl up in a ball and stop living? Or do you pull up your resume, update it and start actively looking for employment?

Now, I'm not saying you can't cry, have a pity party and be upset. But what I am saying is that your pity party needs to be quick and get it over with so you can move on and become a better person for enduring another life lesson!

When you are driving your car, you are looking forward and you have a destination in mind. Live your life that way too ... looking forward with a destination in mind! Once you get there, move forward more and add a new destination to your journey!

I have coasters in my house that have motivational sayings on them. One of them reads "Life is a journey, Not a Destination." The one that my water is sitting on right now reads "If it's in your way, climb over it." MY personal favorite, believe it or not! And the other one that is right near me has this written on it, "In the middle of difficulty lies Opportunity." Isn't that the truth!!!

Now that you have had your pity party over losing your job, you move on and look for that OPPORTUNITY to show it's face to you! It's right there waiting for you to discover it! If you don't open your eyes and look forward, you'll never see it!

"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity"...  that is a quote from Albert Einstein. I think he's on to something! Lemons into lemonade!

Make your life about living! Continue to look forward and find new destinations to go to on your journey! When you find yourself faced with a life changing event, look for that window of opportunity. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason!

Life lessons happen every day. How we react to them leaves us with our end result. Make the most of it and watch your opportunities grow!
