So, I guess I had jumped the gun on the nice weather we were having and planted a little early. The cold killed the tomato seedlings that I planted. The wind took out the bean seedlings and most of the broccoli seedlings. A combination of windy and cold nights ended the cucumbers, a watermelon plant, and some pumpkin seedlings. Sounds like a lot, but they were all just starting anyway. I haven't given up though, I got more seedlings that will soon be planted. Besides, the salad is coming up so fast that I can eat from it every couple of days, the corn seedlings are doing just fine, and some strawberries are forming from their flowers. I tried to get a little artsy and took the attached picture of the forming strawberries at night with a flashlight.
Also, I found a use for some compost that I recently got from a fellow Dearborn gardener. A car tire has appeared suddenly on the garden lot. I'm planning to wash it and then fill it with the compost and plant some seeds. Should be the coolest pot of plants on the block.
