Dispute Over Sunglasses Caused Mall Lockdown: Police
Fairlane Mall in Dearborn was closed for about two hours Monday after two men reportedly exchanged gunfire over designer sunglasses.

A shooting that caused a lockdown at a Dearborn mall for a time Monday afternoon stemmed from a dispute between two men over designer sunglasses.
Dearborn police confirmed to area media that a suspect is in custody.
Shots were exchanged between men in the Fairlane Town Center mall about 4:30 p.m. Monday when one of them tried to take a pair of sunglasses from the other man, police said.

The man with the sunglasses, who has a concealed pistol license, opened fire when the other man tried to take the glasses, and the suspect fired back.
Police said in a statement that the complainant, 24, of Detroit, was shopping at Hutch’s Jewelry Store with a friend. When he exited the store, he was approached by an unknown male suspect who grabbed the sunglasses off his face.

The victim told police that when the suspect reached for his handgun, he fired two rounds from his pistol.
The suspect fled the mall through the JC Penney store with two other unidentified male suspects.
No one was injured.
The suspect remains at large and police are following up on leads.
Dearborn Police Capt. William Leavens told Patch a more significant update could be coming Wednesday.
The lockdown was lifted about 6:50 p.m. at the mall, but both Henry Ford College and the University of Michigan-Dearborn canceled Monday evening classes.
