How to Become a Change Maker Against Bullying, Sexual Harassment and Violence in Schools: AAUW-Dearborn Speech Contest
All high school students in Dearborn are invited to participate in the second annual AAUW-Dearborn Speech Trek II oratorical competition.

Many adults in our community are trying to change attitudes and behaviors and have enlisted students in the fight to end bullying,sexual harassment, and violence in schools. Over the last several years, stories about lost and broken lives because of these issues have permeated the media. Speech Trek II is an opportunity for high school students in Dearborn to express their opinion on the topic in an original 5-6 minute speech. This is a formal oratorical competition and those who intend to participate must complete and submit an application form by December 31,2014. The competiton date will be in mid-January 2015. AAUW-Dearborn will be awarding $300 first place, $150, second place, and $75 third place cash prizes. The first place participant will have a chance to win and additional $500 at the state level. The Dearborn Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is part of a national non-profit organization dedicated to advocacy,education, research, and philanthropy related to human rights,especially those of women. Each year, AAUW-Dearborn presents several programs focusing on important issues that may highlight awareness and foster change. Some of the priorities for 2014-2015 are pay equity,campus violence, and human trafficking. Also,several scholarships are awarded to individuals entering college who might need financial and academic support. One of the most prestigious of these is the AAUW-Dearborn Marge Powell Award given each spring to a graduating senior from each local high school.
