Salamey, Wygonik Advance in District Court Race

Results for Dearborn races from the Aug. 7 primary election.

Primary election results from Dearborn are in, and only two of three candidates for the judge seat will advance to the general election in November.

With 50 of 50 Precincts reporting, the Dearborn City Clerk's office confirms that attorney Sam Salamey and sitting district Judge Richard Wygonik will advance past Tuesday's primary.

With 26.64 percent of the vote, Dearborn attorney Candyce Abbatt received the least votes of the three.

Due to a in Dearborn, final election results will remain open through Aug. 9 to allow those voters more time to turn their ballots in. Results will be considered unofficial until that time.

Also in local races, 15th District state House of Representatives George Darany (D) and Priscilla Parness (R) both advance to the general election from their uncontested primary races. Darany received 98.93 percent of the vote in the 47 precincts his district covers; Parness received 99.1 percent of the Republican vote.

Sole 9th District Republican candidate Rene Simpson–who would represent three Dearborn precincts–advances with 97.87 percent of the primary vote for the portion of Wayne County the district covers. However, only 46 of 53 precincts counted as of midnight Wednesday.

With the same amount of precincts counted, unofficial results suggest that current 10th District Rep. Harvey Santana will advance as the Democratic candidate for the newly redistricted 9th District. As of midnight Wednesday, Santana had received 73.51 of that vote.

Dearborn candidate Hussein Berry–a current Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education Trustee–received 8.63 percent of the tallied vote so far.
