Suspects in Dearborn Kidnapping Face Multiple Felonies
Pair charged with torture, kidnapping, armed robbery and second-offense criminal sexual conduct after allegedly taking woman at gunpoint.

The two suspects arrested after allegedly kidnapping a Dearborn woman at gunpoint and stuffing her into the trunk of their vehicle were arraigned in 19th District Court Friday on multiple felony charges.

Patricia Ann Jernigan, 23, and Terrell Keith Smith, 31, both of Detroit each faced charges of torture, kidnapping, armed robbery and second-offense criminal sexual conduct. Additionally, Smith was charged as a fourth-offense habitual offender, according to a news release from the Dearborn police Department.

Bond was set at $1 million for Smith and $500,000 for Jernigan. They are due back in court Oct. 30 for a probable cause hearing and Nov. 6 for their preliminary exams.

The victim was able to escape by using the trunk release and jumped from the moving vehicle on eastbound Interstate 94 near Livernois in the city of Detroit. She sustained minor injuries.
Jernigan is a former friend of the victim, and Smith is Jernigan’s boyfriend, police have said.
The woman was abducted at her residence in the area of Warren and Lonyo early Sunday morning.
