1 Dead In Fight Between Janitors At Wayne County School: Police

Officials said the attack happened inside a Redford Township high school after students were released from classes.

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, MI — A janitor was killed Thursday in a fight with another janitor inside a Redford Township school, according to police.

Police said a janitor brutally assaulted a coworker after school hours inside Redford Union High School’s secondary campus, located on Kinloch Street near Curtis Road.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died, police said.

A 42-year-old Detroit resident was arrested in connection to the deadly assault without incident, police said.

District Superintendent Jasen Witt said the incident happened after school hours and students had been released from classes. He also said the staff members worked with them through a third party.

"I want to assure you that at no time were any students or other staff members in danger as a result of this incident," district Superintendent Jasen Witt said in a statement.

Witt also said that authorities were "promptly notified" and the district is fully cooperating with the investigation.

The Redford Union High School’s secondary campus was closed Friday while police continue investigating the incident, which is being considered as a homicide, police said.

No further details were released by police.
