2 Arrested In Police Chase Through Wayne, Macomb Counties

The pursuit started on I-94 in Belleville after the driver of a blue Dodge Charger tried to run over a police officer.

METRO DETROIT — Two people were arrested Wednesday morning after a driver tried to hit a Michigan State Trooper and led police on a chase through Wayne and Macomb counties, Michigan State Police said.

Officials said the incident started Wednesday morning at 3:00 a.m. on eastbound I-94 in Belleville when the driver of a blue Dodge Charger resisted arrest, assaulted an officer and tried to run an officer over with the car.

The driver then fled the scene in the blue Dodge Charger with temporary tags, police said.

Officers followed the car through Wayne County until losing sight of it on eastbound I-94 near Haggerty Road, police said.

Garden City Police then located the car in traffic a short time later and alerted State Police, in which they joined Garden City Police in the pursuit of the Charger, police said.

The Charger then got onto eastbound I-96 and the took that to southbound I-75, in which the driver ultimately used to get back onto eastbound I-94 at the Southfield Freeway, police said.

Police then used stop sticks in the area of eastbound I-94 and the Southfield Freeway, in which the driver hit, officials said.

Despite hitting the stop sticks, the Charger continued on eastbound I-94 before giving out near Hall Road in Macomb County, police said.

Both people in the car were arrested and transported to the Brighton post, while police continue the investigation, officials said.

Nobody was injured during the chase, police said.
