'Gun Battle' Ends In 3 Teens, 2 Adults Hurt In Detroit

DETROIT — Three teens and two adults were injured after roughly 30 shots were fired in a Thursday night Detroit shootout, police said.
All five victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where one was listed in serious condition while the others ranged from temporary serious to serious condition, Detroit police Chief James White said.
At least one person was arrested in connection to the shooting as police questioned 11 people, ages between 7 and 20, about the shootout, police said. White said more arrests in connection to the shooting are possible.

White said a "gun battle" broke out between two homes on the 13500 block of Penrod Street, which is near Schoolcraft Road and the Southfield Freeway around 8:50 p.m.
Officers initially found people shot: two 14-year-olds and two adults ages 30 and 31, police said. Officers learned a fifth victim, an 18-year-old was also shot in the hand.

Officers believed a shooter was barricaded inside one of the homes, but later determined there wasn't and removed 11 people inside the home, ages between 7 and 20, White said.
At least one person was arrested and police took four guns from the home in connection to the shooting, White said.
Police believe shooters fired shots from both homes after some kind of dispute over a delivery. Officials don't believe most of the victims lived in the homes, White said.
"This is what looks like a shootout," White said. "Houses that are next door to each other, so neighbors. It is our understanding, at this point, that this was some type of dispute over a delivery."
Police were working on getting a search warrant for the second home, as well as learning the whereabouts of adults and parents were during the shootout, White said.
"We’re not kidding around here," White said. "We’ve said it in the past: You use a weapon to resolve a dispute, you’re going to get our full attention. They’ve got our full attention, so we’re going to do everything we can to sort it out. We’re going to find out if these juveniles belong in this home."
Officials were still investigating the shooting.
