Detroit Boy Dies After Struck By Car, Bus Driver Faces Charges: Cops
Authorities said the school bus driver did not activate the bus's stop lights and stop sign when the child got off the bus.

DETROIT — A school bus driver was arrested in connection to the death of a Detroit boy who was hit and killed by a passing car, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Monday. Authorities said the bus driver did not activate the bus’s stop lights and stop sign when the child got off the bus.
13-year-old Zyiar Harris was fatally struck by a car Wednesday at 4:41 p.m. after getting off the ABC bus near east Nevada and Healy streets in Detroit, officials said. The driver never stopped at the scene, police said.
Medics arrived on the scene shortly after Harris was struck by the car and took Harris to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries on Sunday, officials said.

Debra White, 65, was charged with one count of second-degree child abuse and one count of failure to stop at the scene resulting in death. She was in the 36th District Court and was being held on a $50,000 personal bond. Her next court date is April 19 8:30 a.m. before Judge Kenneth King.
Officials said the charges will be reviewed again when they receive reports from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A GoFundMe page was set up for Harris's funeral arrangements. As of Monday afternoon, the page received $1,822 of its $15,000 goal.
