DETROIT By DETROIT Features 12 Acts Covering Motor City Artists
Celebration of Detroit music features covers of local favorites like you've never heard them, with proceeds to benefit the School of Rock.

Some of the best sounds ever to come out of Detroit will be covered at DETROIT by DETROIT VII, a local music round-robin music festival to be held April 22 at The Loving Touch, 22634 Woodward Ave., Ferndale. The festival debuted in 2011 as an “April fools” show to shine a spotlight on the Motor City’s music legacy.
Participating bands were given the opportunity to cover the Detroit artist of their choice, with each act performing three songs they’ve learned especially for this showcase. Covered acts range from the nationally-acclaimed Andrew W.K. and Smokey Robinson, to local favorites like Citizen Smile. For the sixth year in a row, proceeds will fund a special scholarship at School of Rock for a future Detroit rock and roller.
Twelve bands will rotate between two stages in what’s described by organizers as a musical thrill ride. Admission is $10, and it’s open to all ages.
