Detroit Won't Continue With Nighttime Curfew
Mayor Mike Duggan announced Monday the city would not be continuing its 8 p.m. curfew.

DETROIT, MI — The city will not continue with its 8 p.m. curfew, which was put in place after thousands of people protested police brutality in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, a black man in custody of Minneapolis Police at the time of his death.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said in a news conference Monday that more than 400 people had been arrested during protests in the last 10 days, but many of the demonstrations and protests had been peaceful in nature.
"We had a weekend of peaceful protests, and again, I just can't stress enough, the professionalism of the men and women of the Detroit Police Department," Craig said. "When I look at this department, having worked in other places, Detroit police officers truly exemplify what defines policing excellence."

Craig said the most recent protest-related arrests were made on Tuesday.
Craig and Mayor Mike Duggan said a large portion of people who caused problems and created violence in early protests were from outside Detroit.
